City school budget belt-tightening means school employees will begin work Friday under an administration which, by late August, will include 79 fewer professionals, managers and clerical employees. The reorganization could also mean a savings of more than $1 million for the system, said Ray Holt, deputy superintendent. The cuts came last month as City Council members, civic and business leaders grumbled that schools had too much administration and too few dollars in the classroom.
