Patriotic parade set for Friday evening

Marking Independence Day with a youth-oriented affair the week before, the Hernando Main Street Chamber of Commerce has slated the annual Picnic and Parade Around the Square for Friday.

The parade grand marshal this year is SERVPRO, said Chamber executive director Susan Fernandez. For the parade, children will line up at the Hernando Baptist Church main parking lot at 6:30 p.m. “with their patriotically decorated bikes, wagons and scooters,” she said.

The parade will begin down Center Street at 7 p.m. The young paraders will walk and ride around the square and end at the County Courthouse lawn.

The family fun continues there with a movie, “The Pirates! Band of Misfits,” at 8:30 p.m. Vendors will have pizza and treats available.
