Davis stepping down early

-

Southaven Mayor Greg Davis’ term does not end until next month, but he has announced that he is resigning early from the job he has held for 16 years.

Davis said he will step down as mayor effective Friday and pass the reins to Darren Musselwhite, who defeated him in the June 4 general election.

“In order for our state retirement to work the way it has to work, if I waited until the new mayor was sworn in July 1 it would postpone some things up to 12 to 14 months, so that’s why I am resigning on June 28,” Davis said.

Davis, 47, said he will work in the private sector and spend time with his family this summer.

Musselwhite will be sworn in during a special meeting Friday. He will be sworn in again with the new board members during a July 1 ceremony at 6 p.m. at the Snowden House on Getwell Road.
