Monumental undertaking in Washington
The Washington Monument, shrouded in morning fog and wrapped in scaffolding, is seen past the gaze of the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial on Thursday.
Repairs continue on the 555-foot marble monument to the nation’s first president
to fix damage from a 2011 earthquake. Construction of the scaffolding began in February and its completion on May 14 was a major piece of the $15 million repair project.
