Memphians sweltered and remained under electric fans yesterday when the mercury climbed to 104 degrees on the Court Square kiosk. Hundreds of persons were driven from their homes the night before by the heat and those who could afford electric fans kept them buzzing overtime. Those who cannot afford such luxuries stayed in the parks or stretched out in the grass along the river front where a breeze was blowing in from the west.
