Whole Foods gets permit for build-out

- By Thomas Bailey Jr.

Whole Foods Market this week pulled a building permit for construction valued at $3.1 million in East Memphis.

The boutique grocery is now carrying out long-announced plans for a move within the same building into space that had been occupied by Office Depot.

The grocery’s existing place — 25,000 square feet at 5022 Poplar — is in the rear of the building; the new spot at 5014 Poplar will offer frontage along busy Poplar and more space with 40,000 square feet.

The building permit describes the work as a build- out that includes demolition of the existing store space.

Smith Doyle Contractors will do the work.

Office Depot moved to 5510 Poplar.
