Deen’s no lady
Concerning the Paula Deen situation, of course, the sponsors are correct. When there are no consequences for bad behavior, worse behavior results. I have renewed respect for the Food Network, Smithfield Foods, QVC and any company that holds itself to a higher standard, in this day of vanishing standards. Deen and I are very near in age, so she cannot blame her actions on the era.
Despite her efforts to portray herself as such, Deen is not now, nor has ever been a true Southern lady. True Southern ladies do not use coarse language, racial slurs and sexual innuendo.
A professionally scripted, overly dramatic, media-produced “apology” is an affront to our collective intelligence.
