Albuquerque scores 3 in 8th to top Redbirds
The Albuquerque Isotopes scored three runs off Victor Marte in the eighth inning for a come-from-behind 4-3 win over the Memphis Redbirds on Friday night at AutoZone Park.
Memphis (40- 42) is 3-11 against Albuquerque this season.
Chad Huffman drove in all three runs for Memphis, which went 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position.
With Albuquerque trailing 3-1 in the eighth, former Redbird Brian Barden singled in Dee Gordon for the first run in the rally before Marte intentionally walked the bases full. Justin Sellers then singled to center to score Chili Buss and Barden.
Scott McGregor allowed one run on five hits and a pair of walks in five innings for Memphis and wasn’t involved in the decision. Sam Freeman struck out three over two scoreless innings.
Right-hander Carlos Martinez (2-1, 1.82 ERA) will pitch for Memphis in Saturday’s 6:05 p.m. game against the Isotopes. Albuquerque will start right-hander Matt Palmer (3-3, 4.35).
Late Thursday night, Brock Peterson hit a game-ending home run in the bottom of the 10th inning to lift the Redbirds to a 5-3 win over the Isotopes.
Peterson’s two-run homer was his league-leading 19th of the season and third hit of the game.
