Isotopes squeeze past Redbirds
The Albuquerque Isotopes edged the Redbirds 3-2 on Saturday night in front of 9,858 fans at AutoZone Park.
Memphis is now 3-12 against the Isotopes this year. It was the Redbirds’ second straight one-run loss to the Isotopes and league-leading 16th of the season
Outfielder Chad Huffman went 3-for-4 while catcher Rob Johnson hit a stand-up triple. Outfielder Tommy Pham added a pair of singles.
Both starting pitchers earned decisions. The Redbirds’ Carlos Martinez (2-2) finished the evening with three runs (two earned) on four hits in six innings in the quality start. He walked three and struck out five. Albuquerque’s Matt Palmer (4-3) gave up one run on five hits in six innings.
In his first appearance since rejoining the Redbirds, Nick Greenwood tossed two shutout frames. Marc Rzepczynski ended with a perfect ninth.
Memphis will look to salvage a series split on Sunday with Nick Additon (5-3, 4.29) on the mound at 1:35 p.m. Albuquerque will counter with right-hander Jonathan Sanchez (0- 0, 18.00).
