Last week we spotlighted the Dorothy Day House of Hospitality. This week let us highlight the Kemmons Wilson Family Center for Good Grief, which is the fi rst comprehensive bereavement center for children, adolescents and adults in the region.

The loss of a loved one, and coping with that loss, can be the most difficult situation a person or family will ever face. Even with a strong support network in place, dealing with the grief and wave of emotions, like fear, anger, and guilt, can be too much to handle without help. Thanks to the Baptist Memorial Health Care Foundation, the Kemmons Wilson Family Center for Good Grief is our helping hand, providing support and a safe environment to individuals as they move through the healing process.

Nestled in a serene setting on the campus of Baptist Collierville, the Center offers a wide variety of bereavement services. All services are free of charge and made possible through donations and grants funded by the Baptist Memorial Health Care Foundation and various organizations and individuals. Such services include individual support, family grief support groups, adult grief support groups, Holidays with Hope workshops, camps, and community education and crisis intervention.

Bereavement specialists can provide emotional support through visits and phone calls after a loved one’s death. Families can attend together or attend their own age-appropriate support groups, which can also be specialized for women or men. Held annually, the Holidays with Hope Workshop helps grieving youths and adults prepare for the holidays, which can be tough. They offer separate Good Grief camps for those who have lost a loved one within the last two years. Also, their specialists provide information and help with crisis intervention to assist area businesses, schools, churches and community agencies.

Knowing the center exists and empowering you to refer others to this valuable resource is important for the well-being of our community. Consider visiting to see their amazing work or volunteering at camp to help their efforts.

For more information visit bmhgiving.org or call 901-861-5656 to talk with one of their trained specialists.
