Holiday closes offices, alters trash pickup

- Staff reports

City offices in Hernando, Horn Lake, Olive Branch, Southaven and Walls will be closed Thursday in observance of the Fourth of July holiday and, in some cases, Friday as well.

DeSoto County administrative offices will be closed Thursday and Friday. County offices closed include the Administration Building, Road Management, Justice Court, Animal Shelter and Tax Collector’s branches in Southaven and Olive Branch.

City and county law enforcement, public safety and emergency services are not affected, but trash pickup across the county will change this week because of the holiday.

For residents in Olive Branch, Hernando and Southaven, and for residents in Walls and the unincorporated areas of the county served by contractor Waste Connections, trash pickup will run one day behind Thursday and Friday, including Friday pickups on Saturday.

In Hernando, there will be no brush pickup on Thursday and Friday. Friday’s collection will include Thursday’s. Friday’s recycle pickup will be run on Saturday. And Hernando’s board decided Tuesday night to close city government offices Friday.

There will be no county curbside rubbish and debris collection on Thursday or Friday. Regularly scheduled routes will be run Tuesday and Wednesday. The county rubbish pit at 5255 W. Sandidge Road in Olive Branch also will be closed on Thursday and Friday, and the pit will be open 7 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on all other regularly scheduled days.

County paper and cardboard recycle drop-off bins will be available, as will electronic recycle trailers. For information, call Environmental Services at 662-469-8152 or go online at desotoms.com/departments/environmentalservices.
