- By Yolandria Henderson

The Psi Beta Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. is a strong supporter of excellence in education. The sorority was founded on January 16, 1920 on the principles of finer womanhood, service, sisterly love and scholarship. The Psi Beta Zeta Chapter was chartered in Southaven on March 4, 2010 and continues to uphold the principles for which the sorority was founded upon.

Each year, Psi Beta Zeta awards scholarships to high school students who show outstanding academic achievement, extracurricular activities, and community involvement. During the 2012-13 academic year, several applicants excelled in these areas. Although it was not an easy decisionmaking process, there were three applicants that stood out among the other candidates.

Jaquarius Wilson, a senior at Center Hill High School who holds a 4.0 grade-point average, is very active in the community and highly respected among his peers and instructors. He was on the football team, tennis team, track team and band. He has also received many awards and recognition from his school and community. Wilson has plans on attending Mississippi State University and has an interest in medicine and communication.

Alandria Ramsey, a sen i or at Hernando High School holds a 3.3 grade- point average. She was on the basketball team, 2013 senior maid, as well as several other community and school involvements. Ramsey has plans on attending Delta State University and has interest in physical therapy.

Kimberly Neal, a senior at Olive Branch High School was on the basketball team, several honor societies, as well as the mission team at her church. She has received several awards, includ- ing a trip to Washington D.C., within her school and community. Neal has plans on attending Mississippi State and has an interest in pre-law. Each of these students was the most impressive based on their applications and qualifications.
