JACKSON — A Lee County grand jury has indicted state Rep. Brian Aldridge of Tupelo and his parents on embezzlement charges.

Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson says the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office issued arrest warrants Tuesday for the lawmaker and his parents, Louis Aldridge and Janice Aldridge.

Louis Aldridge and Janice Aldridge, who are divorced, were arrested separately Tuesday. Each was released on $5,000 bond.

The sheriff says he told Brian Aldridge to return from an out-of-town trip.

Brian Aldridge, a Republican, has served in the House since 2004. If convicted of a felony, he would have to resign. His attorney did not immediately return a call.

In 2012, a Chancery Court judge ordered Brian Aldridge to pay more than $200,000 to his aunt, whose estate was depleted by his father.
