A Las Vegas style rock ’n roll tribute to Elvis Presley will be featured at halftime of the Aug. 13 NFL exhibition game in Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium between the Houston Oilers and New England Patriots. Game time is 7 p.m. The halftime show will be staged by Libertylan­d’s song and dance troupe, Heartbeat Production­s.

50 years ago: 1963

Proceeds from the first concert for the general public by the Student Nurse Glee Club at Baptist Hospital will aid medical programs in foreign mission fields. The 140-voice group, organized 15 years ago, will sing in Lee Auditorium at Bellevue Baptist Church at 8 p.m. Monday. Profits from the program, directed by Thomas P. Lane, will be used to purchase two special inoculatio­n tools known as “peace guns.” The “peace guns” operate on air pressure and provide rapid inoculatio­ns for a large number of people.

75 years ago: 1938

Attorney General Hanover said that today he will appoint Bennett H. Hurt as second assistant attorney general of Shelby County. First assistant is Lawrence Monteverde, who was Shelby County’s first public defender.

100 years ago: 1913

Popular with Mem- phians are the daily excursions of the steamer Charles H. Organ around Presidents Island via Riverside Park.

The steamboat leaves daily at 9:30 in the morning and at 3 in the afternoon. Round trip fare is 25 cents.

125 years ago: 1888

Operators at four gambling houses, two on Main, another on Monroe and the fourth at Monroe and Second, were arrested yesterday and released after they had posted usual forfeits.
