Helping St. Jude at Riverside Speedway

Parts Plus Riverside Internatio­nal Speedway will host racing Saturday at the high-banked, quarter-mile dirt oval at 151 Legion Road in West Memphis, with the feature race the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital of Memphis Benefit Race. Hot laps begin at 6:30 p.m. and races at 7:30. Admission is $12. Two dollars from every general admission ticket sold will go to St. Jude.

Saturday’s racing features the Comp Cams championsh­ip series 360 wing sprint cars, RE Technologi­es 305 wing sprint, G & S Electric modifieds, late models and The Supply House Riverside stock.

Drivers battling for the Comp Cams championsh­ip include A.G. Rains of West Memphis; Howard Moore of Memphis; Joe Young of Little Rock; Marshall Skinner of Marion, Ark.; Zach Pringle of Benton, Ark.; Jordon Mallett of Greenbrier, Ark.; Rick Pringle of Benton, Ark.; Nic Jenkins of Little Rock; Jerry Kamer of Little Rock; and Cody Gardner of Benton, Ark.

COLLEGES

Five members of last season’s University of Memphis women’s golf team were named Women’s Golf Coaches Associatio­n All-American Scholars for having a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher. Alex Alang, Ashleigh Whisenant, Julia Hodgson, Natalie Turk and Sarah Mathews are the honored Tigers.

LSU running back Jeremy Hill admitted Friday in Louisiana district court to punching a man in the head outside a bar in late-April. State District Judge Michael Erwin, however, allowed him to remain out of jail, on probation, after Hill pleaded guilty to misdemeano­r battery. Coach Les Miles said through LSU spokesman Michael Bonnette that the Tigers’ leading rusher last year remains suspended indefinite­ly.

HOCKEY

Boston Bruins star Patrice Bergeron signed an eightyear, $52 million contract extension Friday with the Eastern Conference champions. The new deal for one of the NHL’s top two-way forwards begins after next season when Bergeron’s three-year, $15 million contract expires.

TENNIS

Two-time defending champion John Isner won a matchup of the tallest players on the ATP tour, with the 6-9 American defeating 6-10 Ivo Karlovic of Croatia 7- 6 (3), 7- 6 (3) on Friday to advance to the semifinals of the Hall of Fame Championsh­ips at Newport, R.I. ... Fabio Fognini of Italy beat top-seeded Tommy Haas of Germany 6-4, 6-2 to reach the semifinals of the Mercedes Cup at Stuttgart, Germany, along with second-seeded Philipp Kohlschrei­ber of Germany. ... Unseeded Thiemo De Bakker beat top-seeded Tomas Berdych 7-5, 7-5, and second-seeded Nicolas Almagro was defeated by Spanish compatriot Fernando Verdasco 6-4, 4- 6, 7-5 in the Swedish Open quarterfin­als at Bastad.

SOFTBALL

Jessica Moore threw a one-hitter, Lauren Gibson hit a two-run single during a four-run third inning and the United States beat Australia 4-0 on Friday night in the World Cup of Softball at Oklahoma City.
