A 24-year-old man has been arrested for shooting a teenage boy last weekend in Horn Lake, but police said the suspect is not the same gunman who fired shots into a crowd at a party at the Tennis Center in Southaven.

Martavious Hinds, who has a Southaven address, was taken into custody late Thursday by Southaven police, said Horn Lake Police Lt. Scott Evans.

Hinds has been charged with aggravated assault — use of a deadly weapon for the alleged shooting of a 17-year-old boy in the 2000 block of Devon Circle on Sunday morning. He also was wanted by police on a warrant for contempt of court. He also faces charges of possession of paraphernalia in Southaven.

Evans said there was a brief standoff between Hinds and Southaven authorities before he was arrested and turned over to Horn Lake detectives. He remains in the DeSoto County Jail under $500,000 bond.

“The i nvestigation has led us to believe the Southaven shooting and the Horn Lake shooting were not related. At this point, it’s purely coincidental that they all were at the same Southaven party earlier in the night,” Evans said.

Southaven and Horn Lake police had joined forces to work on the shootings because they believed they were linked because the three victims were at the same party.

The shooting in Southaven left two teenage girls with noncritical injuries after someone pulled into the parking lot of the Tennis Center at 3750 Freeman Lane, off Malone Road,

and fired several shots into the air and then into the crowd.

A 17-year-old girl was hit in the thigh and a 16-yearold girl was hit in the buttock. Both were taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto, where they were treated and released.

The shooting occurred shortly after 11 p.m. Saturday. Horn Lake police then were notified at 1:18 a.m. about another gunshot victim at Baptist-DeSoto.

A teenage boy had been taken by private vehicle to the hospital after he had been shot in Horn Lake. The teen was later transferred to the Regional Medical Center at Memphis, where he was treated and released.

Southaven police continue to investigate the shooting at the Tennis Center, and no arrests have been made. They are searching for a black, latemodel Nissan Maxima involved in that shooting.
