In June, the Police Services division employed the largest number of workers in Memphis city government — 3,054. Its 2,772 full-time employees earn an average annual salary of $50,856. The 282 part-timers in Police Services earn an average of $14.70 an hour, with most in the $12- to $15-perhour range. One part-time instructor earned $45 an hour. Fire Services employs the secondlarg­est number of workers: 1,739 fulltimers and 10 part-timers. Full-timers earn an average of $53,225 a year. Part-timers earn either $12 or $21.33 an hour, for an average of $17.60 an hour. Public Works employs 1,032 fulltimers and 186 part-timers. Fulltimers earn an average of $39,261 a year. Part-timers earn between $12 and $26.70 an hour, for an average of $12.50 an hour. Police Director Toney Armstrong, Fire Director Alvin Benson and Public Works Director Dwan Gilliom all earn $120,180 a year. Thirty-four full-timers and 19 parttimers work in the executive division. Full-timers earn an average of $60,895. Part-timers earn between $12 and $18 an hour, for an average of $14.40 an hour. Mayor A C Wharton’s salary is $162,925 a year.
