Demon in the pond
A Nepalese man climbs a pole erected in a pond Friday as part of Deopokhari festival in Katmandu. Locals believe a demon lives in the pond and drowns people. The festival is held to appease the demon so no one drowns. Devotees also sacrifice a cow to the pond demon and throw a live goat into the pond so that teams can compete to retrieve the animal first.
