Fatal casting gaffe

- Edward R. Winburne, Cordova

Something inside of me has been festering ever since I read an article in the Aug. 4 edition of Parade magazine about the movie based on the experience of Eugene Allen, who served in the White House under presidents Harry Truman through Ronald Reagan.

I’m sure if he had written a book about his experiences it would have made very interesting reading.

I will not, however, attend the movie and hope others who feel the same as I will not either. It is not because of the material it covers; it is something else. How in the world could they cast “Hanoi Jane” Fonda in the role of Nancy Reagan? What a slap in the face. That would be like casting “Axis Sally” (of World War II), as Eleanor Roosevelt or Bess Truman.

I cannot forget “Hanoi Jane’s” conduct during the war in Vietnam and am sure the 47,424 who were killed in combat there could not, either.
