Police officers shoot suspect at store

-

West Memphis police officers shot and critically wounded a suspect Thursday night, officials said.

The incident happened just after 7:45 p.m. outside the Walker Street Grocery at 315 Walker. The officers said that when they arrived outside the store, they witnessed Nathaniel Warren involved in an altercation with another person. The officers said Warren, 41, was armed with a gun, then pointed it at them.

The officers said Warren failed to comply with orders to drop the gun, so they opened fire. Warren remains in critical condition at the Regional Medical Center at Memphis.

It’s uncertain how many officers were involved, or how many of them fired. The Arkansas State Police is investigating the shoot- ing. ASP spokesman Bill Sadler would not answer those questions Friday.
