Trustee warns of scam caller

Shelby County Trustee David Lenoir warned that a caller pretending to be from his office is asking residents personal informatio­n.I

One Memphis resident reported being contacted by an individual who identified himself as a “processor for the Shelby County Trustee.”

The male caller told the resident he was acting on a court order, provided the last four digits of the resident’s Social Security number and asked the resident to confirm the informatio­n.

The caller would not give a name and the phone number from which he called was blocked. When challenged by the resident, the caller became belligeren­t.

Lenoir said his office does not employ thirdparty vendors, either for collection­s or to serve legal documents related to collection­s. Anyone who contacts a resident from the Trustee’s office will provide a name and will not ask taxpayers to con-
