Children’s March set for noon Saturday
WLOK, the first radio station in Memphis owned by African-Americans, will host the Memphis Children’s March on Saturday.
The Children’s March will begin at the intersection of Riverside and Georgia. Participants will begin walking to Tom Lee Park at noon.
Following the march, the 39th Annual Stone Soul Picnic and Music Festival will be held at 1 p.m. in the park.
The festival will feature traditional gospel music and several special guests, including Commissioner Henri Brooks.
The event will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington, which was the largest demonstration for human rights ever staged.
Both the march and the festival are free and open to the public. Families are asked to bring their own blankets, lawn chairs and picnic baskets.
