Ballmer to retire from Microsoft

Microsoft Corp. CEO Steve Ballmer, who ran the software giant after founder Bill Gates left, will retire within the next year. A search committee has formed.

Analysts said candidates may include former strategy chief Craig Mundie and former chief software architect Ray Ozzie, who last year founded Cocomo, which has since changed its name to Talko.
