Tiger women’s soccer wins opener

-

The University of Memphis women’s soccer team proved dominant in their season opener, winning their seventh-straight home opener in a 2-0 shutout of Samford on Friday at Mike Rose Soccer Complex.

Memphis attacked early as junior Kylie Davis sent a shot just wide a minute and a half into the match.

The Lady Tigers got their first goal of the season at the 27:45 mark as junior Nugene Nugent found the right corner of the goal from six yards out to put Memphis up with the assist coming from senior Christabel Oduro.

Memphis made goalkeeper Katie Peters continue to work, as Oduro put a shot on goal before the Lady Tigers tacked on another goal with 19:25 to play in the period when junior Kaitlyn Atkins found freshman Valerie Sanderson off a corner kick to push the lead to 2-0.

The Lady Tigers return to Mike Rose Soccer Complex on Sunday when they host SEC foe Missouri at 1 p.m. Admission is free.
