EYE ON OLE MISS
Playmakers: The Ole Miss single-season record for catches is 77, and receiver Donte Moncrief may obliterate it this season. The 6-3, 222-pound Moncrief (66 catches for 979 yards, 10 TDs in 2012) should see fewer double-teams this year with the addition of talented freshmen pass-grabbers Laquon Treadwell and Quincy Adeboyejo.
Play takers: The Nkemdiche Brothers have the potential to be one of the most physical sets of defenders in the SEC. Freshman Robert Nkemdiche is a 6-4, 300-pound athletic marvel at defensive end while older brother Denzel Nkemdiche, a sophomore, earned All-SEC honors last year as a relentless 5-11, 207-pound linebacker.
Best foot forward: Punter Tyler Campbell, with a 43.6 career average, returns for his senior season after being redshirted last season. Also being saved for this season is senior placekicker Andrew Ritter, who has range extending past 60 yards.
What’s up, Rook?: Take your pick among the freshmen expected to make an impact — Treadwell, Adeboyejo, Robert Nkemdiche — and don’t sleep on offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil, a 6-5, 332-pound pile mover who has impressed in preseason scrimmages.
Ouija board: Ole Miss’ wacky schedule has the Rebels playing four of their first five games on the road, then not crossing the state borders the rest of the year with six straight home games before a regular season-ending trip to Mississippi State. Based on quarterback Bo Wallace staying relatively healthy, Ole Miss finishes 8-4 overall, 5-3 in the SEC’s Western Division.
