Wing burgers

Snack-size sandwiches a gameday hit

- By Jennifer Chandler Special to The Commercial Appeal

It’s football season, and that means fun, food and tailgates. Burgers are the perfect fare for watching a game at home or at a tailgate, but a big burger can be messy to maneuver in front of the TV. Sliders are the perfect option. These burgers may be mini, but they are big on flavor. Sliders are just right when serving a crowd, at a picnic, at a backyard cookout, or at a tailgate party. These little sandwiches, typically about 3 inches across, cook quickly and are easy to transport.

These Buffalo sliders take the slider experience up a notch.

Think burgers meet Buffalo chicken wings. What better combination for a game- day appetizer. The wallop of flavor comes from the Buffalo dressing. Simply a combination of mayonnaise and hot sauce, this dressing truly couldn’t be any easier to prepare. Toss a bag of shredded coleslaw mix with blue cheese dressing to round out the Buffalo wing experience.

Many stores sell slider-specific buns. When forming your burgers, be sure to make ones that fit the size of the bun. Dinner rolls, baguette slices and even hot dog buns cut into thirds are also great options for slider buns.

For a leaner burger, you can substitute ground turkey for the ground beef.

As you cheer on your favorite team on game day, bet your family agrees that the only thing better than a burger is several tiny burgers.
