Lynx’s Moore heads ALL-WNBA team

Minnesota Lynx forward Maya Moore was a unanimous choice for the All-WNBA first team.

She was joined on the team by Phoenix’s Diana Taurasi and Brittney Griner, Los Angeles’ Candace Parker and Tulsa’s Skylar Diggins.

Moore, the league’s leading scorer at 23.9 points per game, set a WNBA record with 12 games of 30-plus points. Taurasi earned her record ninth first-team selection, surpassing Lisa Leslie.

Taurasi averaged 16.2 points and 5.6 assists, leading the Mercury to a league-best 29-5 record and a spot in the WNBA Finals. Parker led the Sparks with 19.4 points, second-best in her career. Diggins averaged 20.1 points, up from 8.5 as a rookie.

Vanderbilt has landed the third commitment in its 2015 class in 6-11 center Djery Baptiste, who chose the Commodores over Connecticu­t. Baptiste, originally from Haiti, is a senior at Prestonwoo­d Christian Academy in Plano, Texas. ... Illinois senior starting point guard Tracy Abrams will miss the 2014-15 season after tearing his right anterior cruciate ligament in preseason skill workouts. Abrams, who averaged 10.5 points and 3.2 assists last season, is expected to redshirt and return for his final season of eligibilit­y in 2015-16.

Rutgers gave coach Kyle Flood a two-year contract extension Thursday after the Scarlet Knights opened the football season with two wins.

Alison van Uytvanck of Belgium advanced to the quarterfin­als of the Hong Kong Open by beating secondseed­ed Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia 3- 6, 6-2, 6-4 on Thursday. Van Uytvanck will next face Slovak qualifier Jarmila Gajdosova.
