Senators defy politics to survive

-

Two U.S. senators from opposite sides of the political aisle spent a week marooned together on a remote island for a new reality show, “Rival Survival.”

New Mexico Democrat Martin Heinrich and Arizona Republican Jeff Flake say they hope their adventure, which is scheduled to air Oct. 29 on Discovery, inspires their colleagues in Washington to work together.

Discovery says the show was filmed during the August break on the island of Eru in the Marshall Islands. In a statement, Discovery describes the island “as an utterly unforgiving deserted destination where the reefs alone are fraught with dangers that include venomous stonefish, lionfish and scorpion fish.”

Discovery says the senators came up with the idea to show their colleagues and the world that if you want to survive, you have to work together.

In case you can’t get enough of Tori Spelling, here’s season 2

Lifetime says filming began Thursday on another season of “True Tori.”

On the show, cameras follow Tori Spelling as she works to piece together her marriage after her actor-husband, Dean McDermott, was caught in a cheating scandal late last year.

While McDermott is on the series, “True Tori” focuses on the 41-year-old Spelling.

In an interview earlier this year with The Associated Press for her ABC Family comedy, “Mystery Girls,” Spelling said doing “True Tori” was “a great experience” because it helped get her story out, rather than letting tabloids tell their version.

Season two of “True Tori” premieres Oct. 21.

Kathy Ireland brings class — and burp talent —to pageant

Add a new talent to supermodel Kathy Ireland’s portfolio: burping.

A celebrity judge at this year’s Miss America pageant, Ireland was challenged Wednesday night by pageant host Dena Blizzard to reveal an interesting fact about herself that no one knows.

Ireland claimed she could “burp the alphabet.”

Blizzard, a former Miss New Jersey and now a standup comedian, challenged Ireland to do it on stage.

Ireland admitted she really can’t burp the alphabet, but she did let out a loud belch on command from the stage during the second night of preliminary competition.

The actual talent portion of the evening was won by Miss Kentucky, Ramsey Carpenter, who played the fiddle.

Blizzard lauded Ireland, saying, “You just made supermodels cool!”
