Florida State escapes Hurricanes’ upset bid

MIAMIGARDE­NS, Fla.— Dalvin Cook ran for two touchdowns, including the goahead score late in the fourth, and No. 2 Florida State continued its season of rallies by erasing a 16-point deficit and topping Miami 30-26 on Saturday night.

Jameis Winston completed 25 of 42 passes for 304 yards for the Seminoles (10- 0, 7- 0 Atlantic Coast Conference, No. 3 College Football Playoff), who extended their winning streak to 26 games and beat Miami for the fifth straight time.

“Just the way we do things at Florida State,” Seminoles coach Jimbo Fisher said.

The Seminoles trailed 16- 0 and 23-7 before outscoring the Hurricanes 23-3 in the final two quarters.

Brad Kaaya threw for 316 yards and two touchdowns for Miami, which got to the Florida State 43 on its final drive but fell short when Jalen Ramsey intercepte­d a fourth-down pass with 39 seconds left.

(5) TCU 34, Kansas 30 at Lawrence, Kan.: Aaron Green ran for 128 yards and two touchdowns, Cameron Echols-Luper returned a punt 69 yards for another score and the Horned Frogs (9-1, 6-1 Big 12) turned back the Jayhawks (3-7, 1- 6).

Trevone Boykin added 330 yards passing and a touchdown for TCU, which trailed 27-17 midway through the third quarter

(8) Ohio State 31, Minnesota 24 at Minneapoli­s: J.T. Barrett threw for three touchdowns and ran for an Ohio State quarterbac­k-record 189 yards and another score.

Barrett completed 15 of 25 passes for 200 yards and one intercepti­on for the Buckeyes (9-1, 6-0 Big Ten) against the Gophers (7-3, 4-2).

(22) Wisconsin 59, (11) Nebraska 24 at Madison, Wis.: Melvin Gordon rushed for a major collegerec­ord 408 yards and four touchdowns and the Badgers overcame three early turnovers to take control of the Big Ten West.

Gordon eclipsed the mark held since 1999 by TCU’s LaDainian Tomlinson by two yards.

Gordon had two fumbles before helping the Badgers (8-2, 5-1) roar past the Cornhusker­s (8-2, 4-2) with 49 straight points.

(12) Michigan State 37, Maryland 15 at College Park, Md.: Jeremy Langford ran for 138 yards and two touchdowns to lift the Spartans (8-2, 5-1 Big Ten).

Riley Bullough scored on a 22-yard intercepti­on return to help the Spartans bounce back from last week’s 49-37 loss to Ohio State with a win over the Terrapins (6-4, 3-3).

Northweste­rn 43, (15) Notre Dame 40 (OT) at South Bend, Ind.: Jack Mitchell kicked a 45-yard field goal with 19 seconds left to force overtime, and then kicked a 41-yard field goal for the upset for the Wildcats (4- 6).

The Wildcats had closed to 40-37 with 4:10 left on a 6-yard touchdown run by quarterbac­k Trevor Siemian and a 2-point conversion after Notre Dame (7-3) was called for pass interferen­ce.

(17) Arizona 27, Washington 26 at Tucson, Ariz.: Casey Skowron kicked a 47-yard field goal as time expired to give the Wildcats (8-2, 5-2 Pac-12) a victory.

Skowron missed a first attempt wide right, but the Huskies (6-5, 2-5) called a timeout just before the kick and he got another try.

(24) Georgia Tech 28, (18) Clemson 6 at Atlanta: Georgia Tech’s Jamal Golden returned an intercepti­on 85 yards for a touchdown to lift the Yellow Jackets (9-2, 6-2 ACC) past the Tigers (7-3, 6-2).

Clemson quarterbac­k Deshaun Watson did not return after a first-quarter knee injury. Cole Stoudt threw three intercepti­ons after replacing Watson.

Virginia Tech 17, (19) Duke 16 at Durham, N.C.: Michael Brewer threw two touchdown passes and the Hokies (5-5, 2-4 ACC) held on for the upset.

Duke (8-2, 4-2) had two late chances to reclaim the lead, but Ross Martin missed a 40-yard field goal try with 2:26 left and the Blue Devils were stopped on downs at their 40 with 43 seconds left.

(21) Marshall 41, Rice 14 at Huntington, W.Va.: Rakeem Cato threw four touchdown passes, Devon Johnson rushed for 199 yards and a score as Marshall improved to 10-0 for the first time since it finished 13- 0 in 1999.

The Thundering Herd (6-0 Conference USA) limited Rice (6-4, 4-2) to 180 yards and ended the Owls’ six-game winning streak.

(25) Utah 20, Stanford 17 (2OT) at Stanford, Calif.: Travis Wilson threw a 3-yard touchdown pass to Kenneth Scott in the second overtime to lift the Utes (7-3, 4-3 Pac-12) past the Cardinal (5-5, 3-4).

Wilson found Scott on an inside slant on thirdand-one as Utah snapped a two-game losing streak.

OTHERS

ACC: Matt Dayes totaled 113 yards from scrimmage and scored three touchdowns to help North Carolina State (6-5, 2-5) beat Wake Forest 42-13 at Raleigh, North Carolina. ... At Chapel Hill, North Carolina, T.J. Logan scored from 1 yard with 50 seconds left to help North Carolina (55, 3-3) rally past Pittsburgh 40-35.

Big Ten: At Piscataway, N.J., Gary Nova threw two touchdown passes to Leonte Carroo and Robert Martin ran for three TDs as Rutgers (6-4, 2-4) defeated Indiana 45-23. Indiana halfback Tevin Coleman rushed for a career-high 307 yards, including a 67-yard touchdown run late in the first half. ... At Champaign, Illinois, Mark Weisman ran for 134 yards and Iowa (7-3, 4-2) battered Illinois with 587 yards of offense in a 30-14 win.

Big 12: At Lubbock, Texas, Samaje Perine scored three touchdowns, and Cody Thomas threw for one score and ran for another to lead Oklahoma (7-3, 4-2) over Texas Tech, 42-30. ... At Stillwater, Oklahoma, Tyrone Swoopes completed 24 of 33 passes for 305 yards and two touchdowns to lead Texas (6-5, 3-3) to a 28-7 victory over Oklahoma State (5-5, 3- 4).

MID-SOUTH

Rhodes 19, Millsaps College 14 at Jackson, Miss.: Roc Sherrell scored two touchdowns, including a 22-yard run with 6:26 left that gave the Lynx a 19-0 lead.

Sherrell ran 20 times for 66 yards. Kevin Vieira led Rhodes (8-2, 5-1 Southern Athletic Associatio­n) with 89 yards on 16 attempts.

Blake Box completed 14 of 29 passes for 150 yards and two touchdowns, a 55-yarder to Nick Parinella in the first quarter and a 3-yarder to Sherrell in the fourth. Parinella had four catches for 93 yards.

After Rhodes took its 19- 0 lead in the fourth quarter, the Majors (3- 6, 2-4) returned a kickoff 93 yards for one score and a punt 20 yards for their second TD.

Michael Shield led the Lynx defense with 10 tackles, including eight solo, two tackles for a loss of six yards and one intercepti­on.

Delta State 27, Mississipp­i College 3 at Cleveland, Miss.: The Statesmen clinched their seventh Gulf South Conference championsh­ip.

Tyler Sullivan went 23for-34 for 295 yards and two touchdowns for Delta State (9-1, 6-1). Eddie McCadney ran 17 times for 108 yards for the Statesmen.

Appalachia­n State 37, Arkansas State 32 at Jonesboro, Ark.: Marcus Cox ran for 229 yards and two touchdowns on a careerhigh 40 carries to lead Appalachia­n State (5-5, 4-2 Sun Belt) past the Red Wolves (6-4, 4-2).

Fredi Knighten threw two of his three touchdown passes in the final 2:17, but Arkansas State couldn’t close the gap.
