Rieger joins chamber to recruit members

Memphis Lovett is a retired Memphis Police major and left t he department after 31 years. She is a facilitato­r with the Memphis Child Advocacy Center for Stewards of Children, which led Midtown ATA Martial Arts into becoming the only martial arts school to apply and become a “Partner in Prevention” with Darkness to Light, which focuses on recognizin­g, preventing and reporting child sexual abuse.

Memphis Park Commission as a referee and later became park director.

We teach taekwondo for all ages, 3 years and older. We specialize in family classes and also offer classes for those students with special needs. We work on life skills such as courtesy, respect and how to apply them in their daily lives.

We had a 3-yearold with Down syndrome and his verbal skills had not yet developed. We adapted our instructio­n to meet his challenges, he responded well and was progressin­g with his physical moves but still challenged with verbal communicat­ion. His mom brought him to class and he was t he senior student t hat night which meant that he got to bow in the class, something she had never seen him do. He confidentl­y came to the front of the class called attention on the floor. Even though nobody understood his words, they stood tall and followed his directions. He led them through the Tiger Oath in his words and the class responded with the correct words. His mom was in tears. Not only was this a personal victory for him but it was also for the class.

On April 29, 2014, Wings Cancer Foundation was the recipient of a very generous donation from the Hari Family, owners of the Quality Inn in Southaven, in memory of Magan Hari.

In lieu of flowers at their grandfathe­r’s funeral they asked everyone to donate money for cancer research. They collected $7,001, part of which was used to purchase three iPads for patient use at the West Clinic’s Southaven location. The remainder of the money, $6,084.86, will be used for cancer research at the West Clinic.

At the presentati­on were Magan’s widow Laxmi Hari, son Steve Hari, ter In Ho Lee for his motto of “Change Yourself First” and they continue to maintain the focus on the developmen­t of oneself and less on the athleticis­m. daughter-in-law Mina Hari, granddaugh­ters Cayla Hari and Aleena Hari and grandson Alec Hari. Tom Rieger, a Denver consultant who helped launch the Greater Memphis Chamber’s Chairman’s Circle, has joined the chamber as senior vice president of membership.

R ieger, president of TNR & Associates, provided strategic con s u l t i ng services t hat led to t he chamber’s group of business executives who are backing community i mprovement i nitiatives dubbed Moon Missions.

President Phil Trenary said i n a release, “Tom has shown t remendous leadership i n his work with us here at the chamber and we are fortunate to have him on board fulltime. His commitment to Memphis demonstrat­es his passion for helping our businesses grow as well as providing the best service and benefits for our members.”

Rieger will manage the Bravo Team, which works on member recruitmen­t, retention and benefits and sponsorshi­ps.

Rieger said, “My mission is to unite the business community to win the jobs war in Memphis. Together, we will be successful i n creating jobs a nd developi ng more business and prosperity for all.”
