Library to host annual Bookstock festival

Bookstock 2015 will be April 18 from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library.

More than 40 authors, their fans and book lovers of all ages will attend the festival, which will include live music, food trucks, a scavenger hunt, face painting for kids, cooking demonstrat­ions, gadget labs and much more.

New York Times best-selli ng authors Charles Graeber, Patricia McKissack and Mary Monroe will be the featured authors. For a complete list of Bookstock 2015 authors, visit memphislib­rary.org.

Additional­ly, aspiring authors have a chance to have their work reviewed before a panel of published authors — Aspiring Authors Under Scrutiny — by submitting 10 pages of original writing for review and immediate feedback. Registrati­on is required, as space is limited.

“Bookstock is a local event that affords the family an opportunit­y to explore and appreciate the value of the written word. Families should come enjoy a day where they can spend time together at a free event that has invaluable experience­s,” encouraged Wang-Ying Glasgow, event organizer and library adult services coordinato­r.

Library customers will find there is something for everyone of all ages for lovers of fiction, nonfiction, inspiratio­nal to romance, true crime and children’s books at Bookstock 2015.

Kids will enjoy Bookstock Jr. including Tunes and Tales, pop up stories, bookmaking, face painting, puppet show and craft and children’s gadget lab. For the teens there is coffee and books, a School of Rock Performanc­e, Starbooks Café and Prizes, Cloud901 Art Wall, face painting, YA Author Talk via Skype, Teen Gadget Lab and Make Your Own Manga.

Teen services coordinato­r Janae Pitts-Murdock notes, “We have really geared up the teen portion of Bookstock Jr. to welcome more of our teen customers to experience what Bookstock has to offer.”

Director of libraries Keenon McCloy adds, “The benefits of Bookstock are endless. We want our customers to develop or to foster a love for literacy in an engaging and safe environmen­t which the Library provides.
