Arlington closes out strong week

-

He was fine through two innings, but a combination of two infield errors, three wild pitches and a passed ball helped brew up a 3-0 Arlington lead in the third inning. Freshman shortstop Tate Kolwyck drove in the first run with a sacrifice fly to the opposite field and Blue Mountain College-bound senior Aaron Campbell followed with an RBI single. The passed ball made it 3- 0.

Evans loaded the bases again before getting out of the inning with a strikeout. But Ian Bibiloni led off the fourth with a double, and scored on another sacrifice fly by Kolwyck that chased Evans. The freshman also shined in the field, robbing Dacoda Stone of a hit up the middle in the fourth and ranging fa r to his right to flag down Landon Horne’s shot to the third-base hole. There was no time to make a throw, however, and Horne broke up the no-hitter.

“Tate (one of three new infielders for the Tigers) is an outstanding athlete, and shows an awful lot of poise for a freshman,” said Ring, who also starts a freshman catcher, Hunter Goodman. “He made two really good plays in the field, and it’s awfully tough to lay back and wait on a lower velocity pitcher (like Evans), but Tate was patient and got the ball in the air twice when we needed it.

“I li ke the way we’ve started off, especially Jarod who has been solid all season,” Ring added. “If we stay healthy our pitching should be the anchor of this team.”

Kolwyck said, “It was a tough win Friday night (over Dyer Co.), so we knew we had to stay focused and keep t hings simple today.”

Ger ma ntow n coac h Casey Callway said his team “is still trying to find its way. We’re young, we’re learning, and sometimes we start to panic in situations (like the three-run third).”

The Tigers play in the USA Classic through Saturday at USA Stadium in Millington and CBHS.
