Suspect charged with shipping drugs

-

A suspect has been charged with sending drugs in the mail, the third time this week the charge has been levied locally.

Deandre Eubanks, 29, who was arrested Thursday, was charged with possession of OxyContin, hydrocodone, promethazine with codeine and marijuana, to manufacture, deliver or sell.

According to an arrest affidavit, police responded to a complaint that pills were being shipped to a home in the 600 block of Eva.

Detectives with the Organized Crime Unit went to the home and conducted a “knock and talk,” according to the affidavit.

While at the home, detectives said they saw a postal worker deliver a package. Detectives told the suspect and his grandmother about the drug complaint and were given permission to open the package, in which they found 180 OxyContin pills, 89 hydrocodone pills, two bottles filled with promethazine with codeine syrup and 10.9 grams of marijuana, according to the affidavit.

Eubanks was arrested and admitted that the drugs shipped from California belonged to him, according to police. He is in jail on a $100,000 bond and is due in court Monday.

Cordarius Porter pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the death of 32-year-old Joseph Williams, who was shot in the chest and arm.

Porter was 17 years old at the time of the killing, which occurred around 11 p.m. on July 20, 2013, at Camelot Manor Apartments.
