WHAT THEY’RE SAYING ABOUT MARTIN

-

Here’s what some national writers are saying about Griz draft pick Jarell Martin:

Chad Ford, ESPN.com: Martin was a top-10 high school prospect who might still turn into a stud. He’s a great athlete and has an NBA body. He rebounds and runs the floor, but he’s a bit of a tweener. He just lacks a go-to offensive game. I think he needs to be a stretch 4-type player to thrive in the league. The Grizzlies will hope his jump shot comes along.

Chris Mannix, si.com: His skills don’t exactly mirror Zach Randolph’s. By comparison, Martin is more like Thaddeus Young. He is a transition player who can get to the basket and is a solid ballhandler. If Martin develops, he’s a nice change-of-pace-type forward to fill in for Randolph.

Matt Moore, CBSSports.com: They’re not missing out on any great prospects, but with Jarnell Stokes and Zach Randolph, why would the Grizzlies need more size? Meanwhile, R.J. Hunter was available, and Memphis will continue its search for shooters.
