TV contests pit business owners against each other
Bakers, barkeeps and barbers: Tonight’s reality TV occupational programming is brought to you by the letter “B.”
“Cake Wars” (7 p.m., Food) pits four contestants against one another to impress a revolving circuit of semi-celebrity judges in the hopes of getting a $10,000 prize. Jonathan Bennett (“Mean Girls”) is your host, accompanied by pastry chefs and all-around cake experts Ron Ben-Israel (“Sweet Genius”) and Waylynn Lucas (co-owner of Fonuts).
If sweet desserts aren’t your sugar-delivery system of choice, you might prefer “Barmageddon” (10 p.m., TruTV). This reality contest asks rival bartenders to run each other’s business for one night. The barkeep who makes the most money wins.
“Cedric’s Barber Battle” (8:30 p.m., WLMTTV Channel 30) returns. Hosted by Cedric the Entertainer, this series showcases barbershops in cities across the country and pits barbers against one another in tests of skill.
“Larry Kramer in Love & Anger” (8 p.m., HBO) profiles the playwright, novelist and activist who has been at the center of AIDS awareness and gay rights struggles for decades.
