HARDING STAR COMMITS

Southeast Missouri State wasn’t really on Jake Criswell’s radar. But the Harding baseball standout says he’s found a home.

Criswell — the Lions’ 6-1, 190-pound righthander — has committed to play for the RedHawks, who have won the Ohio Valley Conference championship the last two seasons.

“I had never heard of SEMO but when I went there I just fell in love,” he said. “The campus is really nice, a lot nicer than I expected ... (and) they were very honest with me and my parents about my chances of coming in and playing as a freshman.”

Criswell — who earned all-state mention by the Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association earlier this week — went 4-5 with a 2.18 ERA and 77 strikeouts. A regular since his eighth-grade year, he’ll head into the 2016 season with an 18-9 career record and a chance to become Harding’s career leader in innings pitched, strikeouts and wins.

Harding has reached the substate in each of Criswell’s four seasons, finishing state runner-up twice in Division 2-A.
