Oklahoma City finishes 4-game sweep of Redbirds

Memphis strands 10 in loss to Dodgers

Darnell Sweeney hit a threerun home run to power the Oklahoma City Dodgers to a 3-2 win over the Memphis Redbirds in the finale of our four-game Pacific Coast League series in front of a season-high 8,548 fans on Friday night at AutoZone Park.

For the Redbirds, it was their first four-game series sweep by an opponent since June 14-17, 2013, to the Isotopes in Albuquerqu­e.

The Redbirds stranded 10 base runners and went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position.

Memphis outfielder Stephen Piscotty hit his team-leading 24th double in the loss.

Memphis scored both of its runs in the first inning against Dodgers starter Scott Baker. The Redbirds took a 2-0 lead thanks to a pair of sacrifice flies by Olive Branch native Ed Easley and Bartlett native Jacob Wilson. Leadoff man Rafael Ortega got things started with a double and scored the Redbirds’ first run. Dan Johnson singled and scored on Wilson’s sacrifice fly.

In his Triple-A debut, Redbirds starter Jimmy Reed (0-1) allowed three runs on seven hits in4 ⅓ innings. The left-hander walked none, struck out three and threw 46 of 71 pitches for strikes.

The Redbirds will travel to Colorado Springs for Independen­ce Day to begin a four-game series against the Sky Sox, the Milwaukee Brewers’ Triple-A club, at Security Service Field.
