Dog dies after being left in hot vehicle

- Jody Callahan

On a day when the temperature hit 99 with a heat index of 112, a man and woman decided to leave their dog in the car while they went shopping at Wolfchase Galleria on July 29.

The dog ultimately died, despite the best efforts of three witnesses who spotted the dog in serious distress and rushed it to the nearby Bartlett Animal Hospital. Memphis police are investigating.

Two hours after the witnesses got the dog out, the man and woman who owned the pup returned to their car. The man admitted to police that he left the dog in the car, but “stated that he cracked the windows and had a cup of water inside for his dog.”
