Memphis closes season with win

OKLAHOMA CITY — The Memphis Redbirds wrapped up their 2015 season with a 7-3 win over the Pacific Coast Leaguebest Oklahoma City Dodgers on Monday afternoon at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

Memphis (73-71) finished above .500 for the 10th time since 1998.

The Redbirds scored in the top of the second on a single by former Bartlett High and University of Memphis standout Jacob Wilson.

Memphis scored five in the top of the fourth inning. Redbirds starter Kyle Hald drove in two with a single through the hole on the right side.

With Hald and Travis Tartamella aboard, Rafael Ortega hit his 22nd double of the season, scoring both. Second baseman Dean Anna capped the inning with a single that scored Ortega to make it 6-0.

The Redbirds added a run in the seventh on Travis Tartamella’s sacrifice fly, which drove in Aledmys Diaz after the latter’s double.

Hald (2-2) earned his second win in a row in his fourth start for Memphis. The 26-year-old lefthander allowed three runs on six hits, walked none and struck out two. Justin Wright pitched a scoreless sixth and seventh, then Dean Kiekhefer had a scoreless eighth.

Redbirds closer Sam Tuivailala came on in the ninth to shut down the Dodgers and end the season. The 22-year-old was 17-for-17 in save situations this season for Memphis.

The Redbirds are 1,2751,302 (.495) in 18 seasons since 1998.

The Redbirds open their 2016 season on Thursday, April 7, at AutoZone Park.
