Lausanne’s Armand Amini published in cinema journal
Two years ago, Lausanne senior Armand Amini began a 10-month journey called the Capstone project, a 2,500 word research paper on a specific topic chosen by each student.
This is an annual project for all Lausanne sophomores and an essential step between the exploration of the eighth-grade Cornerstone project and analysis-intense International Baccalaureate assessments.
Amini decided to research and write on something he is passionate about — film. With the help of his Lausanne faculty mentor, Terrance Wilson, he created a survey and sent it out to hundreds of film experts, including award-winning writers, directors, consultants and professors from elite universities.
Out of the hundreds of people contacted, 20 initially responded and 10 provided full responses.
With these survey responses at his disposal, he developed the first of five drafts of his paper after consulting with faculty and independently editing. Six film experts were cited in Armand’s paper, including an Emmy-nominated writer, chairs of film departments of top colleges such as Dartmouth, UC Berkeley and Columbia and a blockbuster film director. The final version of his paper was submitted to a number of well-respected film journals.
After consideration from other journals, one of the most prestigious International Cinema Journals, CINEJ Cinema Journal wanted to publish his paper.
“I’m honored to be in such a prestigious publication with some of the most well-respected film experts from across the world,” Amini said. “It’s unbelievable.”
Other papers in this issue of CINEJ are authored by well-respected professors and film experts from around the world.
