Knitting with Hank Feb. 20 and 27. Classes will teach the basics of casting on, knitting, purling and casting off. Variations of these basic skills will allow for the creation of a variety of projects. Size 8 knitting needles are all that is required. The Eddie Daniels Memorial Chili Cookoff benefiting Hernando Lions Club is Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at The Hills of Hernando Country Club, 1000 Bradley Drive. Featuring baked goods silent auction and raffle. Entry fee is $25 per team. Trophies for best chili and showmanship. Spring Into Art on March 4 at One Memphis Street, 2467 Memphis St. Join the Hernando Young Women’s Club (HYWC) for a fun night of dancing with “The Players Band,” appetizers and cocktails, a silent auction featuring regional and national artists and a chance to have the winning “draw-down” ticket for $3,000. Fundraiser to support a beautification project at Hernando’s Church Park. Funds raised will go toward constructing a brick restroom facility. Tickets are $60. ■ For students who cannot join an after-school book club because of transportation conflicts, The Order
of the Page is an intermediate school book club that also includes advanced second-grade readers. The club offers an opportunity for students to pick topics, read aloud, discuss common themes and polish their literacy skills. The Order of the Page meets on the second and fourth Saturday, from 1-2 p.m.

REM Mississippi, a community-based, innovative health and human services provider offering programs and services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, is opening a new day program in DeSoto County located at 1050 Stateline Road, Suite C, in Southaven. Tish Dettor will present information on the new program and facility at the Feb. 22 meeting of The Arc Northwest Mississippi. The Southaven Public Library, 8554 Northwest Drive, presents Civil Rights Photographs Exhibit, through March 28. Exhibit of photographs taken in Mississippi from 1964-1968 at various civil rights demonstrations. The third biannual Luncheon Gala Awards will be Feb. 27, from 6:30-8 p.m., at Brown Missionary Baptist Church, 980 Stateline Road.
