In trust poll, Clinton trumps Trump

-

WASHINGTON — Americans say they trust Democrat Hillary Clinton over Republican Donald Trump on a range of issues, including immigration, health care and nominating Supreme Court justices.

Even when asked which of the two candidates would be best at “making American great” — the central promise of Trump’s campaign — Americans are slightly more likely to side with Clinton, according to a new Associated Press-GfK poll.

The survey does reveal some potential trouble spots for Clinton. Trump is nearly even with her on whom Americans trust to handle the economy, which voters consistently rank as one of the top issues facing the country. Clinton is trusted more on the economy by 38 percent of Americans, while 35 percent side with Trump.

While Clinton and Trump are still the favorites to face off in the fall campaign, obstacles remain, particularly for the Republican billionaire, who has yet to shake Ted Cruz. Likewise, Clinton cannot pull away from Bernie Sanders.

Two votes lost: Two of Donald Trump’s adult children did not know they had to register as Republicans more than six months ago to vote in New York’s April 19 Republican primary. Trump said it’s “fine” that his children Ivanka Trump and Eric Trump did not register as Republicans in time. He joked that he might cut off their allowances.
