Shoot for the Heart; raise money
Local event helps Northwest Miss. CC
The sixth annual local Shoot for the Heart event to benefit the Northwest Mississippi Community College Division of Nursing will take place on April 21 at the Willows Sporting Clays Center in Tunica. Northwest is looking for sponsors and participants for this year’s events.
According to Dr. Denise Bynum, division director of the Northwest Division of Nursing, more teams and sponsors are needed for the event. Teams are usually made up of four shooters. Adults and teenagers who have an adult to accompany them are all encouraged to participate.
“There are several spots available for both sponsors and individuals. We hope people will come out and participate in this fun event that directly benefits the nursing program,” Bynum said.
The cost for individuals is $300 and $1,200 for a four-person team. Fourperson, corporate sponsored teams are $1,500 and includes sponsor logo on event T-shirts.
Each shooter will receive a shooting shirt, T-shirt, four boxes of shells, 100 rounds of sporting clays, three meals and one door prize ticket.
Additional dinner tickets can be purchased for $50 each. Raffle tickets are optional and can be purchased during all events with the drawing held April 21 during the banquet. In past years, door prizes have included four-wheelers, scooters, gold bricks, silver bricks, shotguns, YETI coolers, hunting trips, coolers with cash and gift cards worth $50-1000.
“Over the past five years, this event has raised $162,000 for the Northwest nursing program. This money has been used to establish the Dr. Ellen Wil-
liams Endowment and the Keith Wilson Endowment, as well as purchase equipment for the nursing school and pay summer tuition for LPNs enrolled the RN Bridge program,” Bynum said. Northwest nursing students assist participants at the event by serving as hosts and trappers on the shooting clays course.
“If you would like for us to register your team or set up your sponsorship for you, we can do so. We will also take donations of any amount,” Bynum said.
