Zay Cullens commits to Memphis football

For the second time in five days, the University of Memphis football program added to its 2017 recruiting class. a running back and safety at North Pontotoc High School in Ecru, Mississipp­i, on Tuesday posted on Twitter that he has committed to the Tigers. Unranked by major recruiting services, the 6-foot, 205-pounder reportedly also held offers from Arkansas State, Louisiana-Monroe and South Alabama.

Cullens ran for 2,201 yards for the Vikings last season, including a 199-yard performanc­e in their season-ending loss to Aberdeen in the Mississipp­i Class 3A playoffs. A three-sport athlete who also plays basketball and baseball, he helped lead North Pontotoc’s football team to a program-best 11-2 record in 2015.

Cullens is the second player in the past week to join Memphis’ 2017 recruiting class, alongside

a cornerback from St. Paul’s Episcopal School in Mobile, Alabama. Cordova defensive lineman

and East running back also have orally committed to the Tigers.

J.B. Woodman tripled, doubled and drove in three runs Tuesday as No. 7 seed Ole Miss defeated No. 10 seed Georgia 5-1 in the first round of the Southeaste­rn Conference baseball tournament.

Ole Miss (41-16) will face No. 2 seed South Carolina (42-13) today as the tournament moves to doubleelim­ination play. Georgia (27-30) was eliminated.

Woodman hit a two-run triple and Colby Bortles doubled home two more runs as Ole Miss took the lead for good by scoring four times in the fourth inning. Woodman doubled home Will Golsan in the fifth.

Georgia had taken a 1-0 lead on Stephen Wrenn’s homer in the first.

Brady Feigl, Will Stokes and Wyatt Short combined for five innings of shutout relief after Brady Bramlett allowed one run in four innings.

Georgia starter Heath Holder yielded four runs in 3¦ innings.

Patrick Raby and two other pitchers combined on a four-hit shutout as the Commodores beat the Tigers.

Vanderbilt (42-15) faces No. 3 seed Texas A&M (41-13) today. Missouri (26-30) was eliminated.

Missouri’s Tanner Houck kept the game scoreless until Vanderbilt broke through with four runs in the sixth. Bryan Reynolds opened the scoring with a two-run double, and Vanderbilt added two unearned runs later in the inning.

Julian Infante hit a two-run homer as Vanderbilt broke the game open with three runs off Austin Tribby in the eighth. Will Haynie hit a two-run homer in the top of the ninth and Alabama
