University of Memphis sophomore guard Randall Broddie won’t be back with the Tigers.

Multiple sources told The Commercial Appeal on Saturday that Broddie, a 6-foot-3 combo guard who didn’t play or practice with the Tigers as a freshman last season, has received a full release from Memphis.

The former three-star prospect from Temple Hills, Maryland, had announced in March he planned to transfer from Memphis when Josh Pastner was still coach. But he remained on the roster after the April hiring of Tubby Smith, who said last month that he planned to keep Broddie “for now.”

Broddie was at one time ranked the No. 7 shooting guard in the Class of 2016 and the No. 45 overall prospect by Scout.com after he reclassified to 2016 following his freshman year of high school. But he rejoined the 2015 class to enroll at Memphis last summer and was re-ranked as a three-star prospect.

Broddie, whose absence last season was categorized as an “internal matter” by Pastner, likely didn’t figure into Memphis’ plans, with the Tigers having added a pair of combo guards this offseason in Coppin State graduate transfer Christian Kessee and three-star 2016 Florida prospect Keon Clergeot.

With Broddie out of the picture, Memphis has four open scholarships for next season.

ALUMNI GAME RETURNS

It was such a hit last year that former Tigers Jeremy Hunt and Willie Kemp decided they had to do it again.

“Since last year everybody has been telling me they can’t wait for this game,” said Kemp, who has teamed up again with Hunt to put together the second annual Blue and Gray Memphis Tigers Alumni Game.

The game is slated for June 25 at 6 p.m. at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse, where last year’s game drew a sellout crowd of more than 2,500 and featured a Chris Crawford-led Blue Team beating a Hunt-led Gray Team 95-84. Crawford, the former catch-andshoot standout at Memphis, led all scorers with 24 points.

The game is expected to feature more than two dozen former Tigers, including Penny Hard-

away, Elliot Perry, Andre Turner, Joey Dorsey, Will Barton, D.J. Stephens, Elliot Williams, Chris Massie, Jimmie “Snap” Hunter, Earl Barron, Will Coleman, Geron Johnson and Robert Dozier.

Fans’ first chance to purchase tickets for the game will be at the U of M’s public seat selection event Friday from 3-6 p.m. at FedExForum. All remaining tickets will go on sale next Monday (June 20) at 8 a.m. Those tickets will be available at gotigersgotix.com or by calling 901-678-2331. Tickets cost $20

“The U of M has been very cooperative with us and everybody is just very excited for the game. It’s gonna be great this year,” said Kemp, who won a championship in Romania this past season and recently hosted a basketball camp for kids in his hometown of Bolivar, Tennessee, for the fifth straight year.

“It’s crazy where this basketball stuff can take you.”

Memphis’ public seat selection event at FedExForum on Friday will include two drawings, an autograph session with Smith and food trucks. Season tickets for the Tigers’ first year under Smith start at $115.
