Rebels’ Bramlett goes to Red Sox

A pair of Ole Miss pitchers headed the list of local players taken in the Major League Baseball Draft on Saturday.

In the 13th round, the Boston Red Sox chose righthande­r Brady Bramlett (Arlington High) and the Chicago Cubs chose right-hander Wyatt Short (Southaven), a former Best of the Preps baseball player of the year.

In the 12th round, the Toronto Blue Jays chose Ridge Smith (Germantown), a catcher/infielder out of Austin Peay. In the 18th, the World Series champion Kansas City Royals chose Mississipp­i State left-hander Vance Tatum (Southaven).

Austin Peay shortstop/second baseman Garrett Copeland (Bolton) went to the Baltimore Orioles in the 30th round, and Mississipp­i State outfielder Brent Rooker (Evangelica­l Christian) went to the Minnesota Twins in the 38th round.

A program-record 11 players were drafted from Mississipp­i State.
