Rebels’ Bramlett goes to Red Sox
A pair of Ole Miss pitchers headed the list of local players taken in the Major League Baseball Draft on Saturday.
In the 13th round, the Boston Red Sox chose righthander Brady Bramlett (Arlington High) and the Chicago Cubs chose right-hander Wyatt Short (Southaven), a former Best of the Preps baseball player of the year.
In the 12th round, the Toronto Blue Jays chose Ridge Smith (Germantown), a catcher/infielder out of Austin Peay. In the 18th, the World Series champion Kansas City Royals chose Mississippi State left-hander Vance Tatum (Southaven).
Austin Peay shortstop/second baseman Garrett Copeland (Bolton) went to the Baltimore Orioles in the 30th round, and Mississippi State outfielder Brent Rooker (Evangelical Christian) went to the Minnesota Twins in the 38th round.
A program-record 11 players were drafted from Mississippi State.
