Ark. asks for funds to complete I-69
Arkansas officials have applied for discretionary federal transportation money to be used to complete the Interstate 69 corridor through the southern part of the state.
The $25 million project would develop the corridor between the Monticello Bypass and the Mississippi River.
Arkansas Highway Commission member Robert Moore said the application can help spur building the proposed $1.3 billion Great River Bridge over the Mississippi River between Arkansas City, Arkansas, and Benoit, Mississippi.
Part of the corridor already has been completed at Memphis.
The 2,680-mile highway will extend from near Brownsville, Texas, to Port Huron, Michigan. Arkansas’ application is among 800 transportation projects nationwide competing for federal money.
