8th Congressio­nal District candidate forum is tonight

A free public forum featuring candidates for the 8th U.S. Congressio­nal District is set for tonight at the Agricenter, 7777 Walnut Grove in Memphis.

The event starts with a meet-and-greet session at 5:30 p.m., followed by the forum moderated by TV news anchorman Joe Birch from 6 to 7:45.

Candidates scheduled to appear are Republican­s George Flinn, Brian Kelsey, David Kustoff, Tom Leatherwoo­d, Mark Luttrell and David Maldonado, as well as Democrat Lawrence Pivnik, according to an Agricenter event calendar.

The 8th District seat currently is held by Rep. Stephen Fincher, R-Frog Jump. The district covers much of West Tennessee, including the suburbs of eastern Shelby County. The primary will be Aug. 4 with the general election Nov. 8.
