Man uses blowtorch in attempt on ATM

Memphis police were searching Monday for a man who used a blowtorch in an attempt to break into an ATM.

The incident occurred at the Memphis Light, Gas and Water office building at 245 S. Main St. around 12:05 p.m. Sunday and was captured on video surveillance.

Police said the suspect did not get any money from the ATM.

Police were looking for a man who was wearing a straw hat with a white towel underneath. He was last seen wearing a gray sweatshirt with a red Ecko Unlimited logo, gray pants and mismatched shoes — his left shoe was red/gray and right shoe was royal blue/gray.

He also had a red luggage-type backpack with wheels that contained the blowtorch, police said.
