UT freshman Bone gets tips from brother

KNOXVILLE — Jordan Bone had a resource the other five Tennessee freshmen didn’t have before moving to Knoxville last month.

His brother, Josh Bone, spent two seasons playing for UT from 2009-11.

“He’s been big when it comes to talking about how college life is going to be,” Jordan Bone said. “I’m always asking him how it’s going to be. He gives me good tips on what to do and what to do different.”

Bone moved to Knoxville on May 29, leaving Nashville and Ensworth School behind.

“It’s about to be very different for me,” said Bone, a 6-foot-2 point guard. “It’s about to be a learning experience. I’m going to be on my own.

“It’s just going to be a maturing process. I just know it’s going to be totally different.”

Josh has already defined that difference for his brother.

“Workouts are going to be much harder,” Jordan Bone said. “It’s going to be a grind but it will be worth it at the end of the day.”

The state of Tennessee basketball is a driving factor for UT’s freshmen.

They were all threestar prospects according to 247Sports, but Bone doesn’t count stars.

“Me personally, I don’t pay attention to that,” he said. “Those are just, with no disrespect, to make people money. I don’t look at stars or numbers to know what kind of player I am.

“If I go up against somebody, it’s going to be worth competing for. I play hard against anybody. It doesn’t matter; I just go out and play my heart out.”

His freshmen teammates plan to do the same.

“I think all of us are ready to come in and go,” Bone said.
